October 1992, Deputy Mayor Yoshio Matsumura and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Head Leader Nobuhiko Iijima visited Salt Lake City by request of the Matsumoto Central Library to donate the Utah Nippo and a printing press. The ceremony took place in front of the grave of Uneo and Kuniko Terasawa. |

In 1896, Kuniko Terasawa was born in Iida City. In 1921, she married Uneo Terasawa, and inherited her late husband's newspaper printing press. She then continued to keep the Utah Nippo alive for the next 52 years. In 1968, she received the 5th rank Zuiho award and in 1987, the Eibon award. In 1965 she became an honorary citizen of Matsumoto City. |

Thes year they celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the committee. In 1993, Brigham Young University Professor Farnsworth visited Matsumoto
and requested for interns to be accepted. Since then Matsumoto accepts interns
annually. The interns are serving their purpose in understanding Japanese
culture. The interns at the Shimin Times write articles in their column in Japanese based on their experiences in Matsumoto. Interns at Astep Shinshu actually participate in business and learn how to approach various types of customers. |

AET (Assistant English Teachers) is a program developed by the Ministry
of Education to strengthen the English Education program in Japan. Matsumoto has been exclusively taking AET members from Salt Lake City. There are teaching at local elementary and junior high schools. AETs who come to MATSUMOTO.
